The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at Khalifa University advances the science and technologies that shape how we generate energy, design machines, manufacture products, and build a more sustainable future. Through education, research, and industry collaboration, we address engineering challenges of strategic importance to the UAE and the world.
Mechanical engineering transforms the principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, materials science, and computation into technologies that serve society and industry. Nuclear engineering complements these strengths through nuclear and radiation science, reactor physics, thermal-hydraulics, and safety engineering, supporting the safe, reliable, and peaceful application of nuclear technologies.
Together, these disciplines provide a foundation for innovation in clean energy, advanced manufacturing, robotics and autonomous systems, transportation, health and biomechanics, and security and defense. Their shared strengths in materials, thermal and fluid sciences, computational modeling, and systems design create opportunities for interdisciplinary research that connects fundamental discovery with practical solutions.
We educate engineers and researchers who combine scientific depth with creativity, technical expertise, and responsible leadership. By connecting rigorous scholarship with real-world challenges, we aim to advance engineering knowledge, strengthen industrial capability, and contribute to the UAE’s ambitions for a diversified, knowledge-based, and sustainable economy.
We welcome inquiries about our academic programs, research activities, and opportunities for collaboration.
