In June 2021, Khalifa University jumped 28 positions from 211th in the 2021 rankings, to 183rd in the QS World University Rankings 2022, becoming the first university in the UAE to become a top world 200 university.
In March 2021, Khalifa University leapt 67 notches to be ranked 214th globally in the ‘Engineering and Technology’ category, top in the UAE and in six subjects in the most recent 2021 QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Rankings by Subject.
Khalifa University has also been ranked 21st in Petroleum Engineering internationally, a jump of seven notches, in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.

The University was placed in the 176-200 band out of 1,008 institutions assessed across more than 70 countries in the 2020 THE listing for subjects.
In August 2019, Khalifa University became the only university in the UAE for the first time to be ranked in the prestigious Shanghai-based Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). Khalifa University was placed in the top leading 100 universities in the field of Chemical Engineering and the world’s top 150 universities in the field of Mechanical Engineering. Overall, KU placed in the 701-800 bracket in the ARWU 2019 ranking.
In June 2019, Khalifa University placed 38th out of 351 total universities aged 50 years or younger according to the Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings 2019. Khalifa University also moved up to 11th place in the THE Young Universities: Millennial Universities Ranking, which ranks top institutions founded since 2000.
