About CTL

The KU’s Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) supports science, technology, engineering and mathematics(STEM) education through professional development, research and innovation.

Vision

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) leads innovation in scholarly research and best practices of teaching and learning.

Mission

The Center for Teaching and Learning supports the teaching community in fostering their teaching practices to promote meaningful students learning across campuses. The main goal of the center is to promote teaching as a scholarly practice aligned with university’s priorities.

  • Create continuous professional development opportunities for faculty.
  • Offer non-evaluative teaching consultation and classroom observations.
  • Sponsor Mini-Grants for SoTL (Scholarship of Teaching &Learning).
  • Sponsor annual Teaching Awards.

Learning Management System

CTL helps students in becoming independent thinkers and lifelong learners through one-on-one and small group tutoring as well as group study sessions, workshops and courses.

Learning Centers

The CTL offers tutoring in Math, Physics, Chemistry, Writing, and various engineering topics based on student needs.

Peer Tutoring

Peer tutoring is a teaching strategy where high achieving students tutor their peers who need extra support. To serve as a peer tutor, peer tutors must be doing well academically, committed to the role, kind and helpful. If you would like to be a tutor, please contact Kholoud Elayyan at Kholoud.elayyan@ku.ac.ae.

Faculty Tutoring

KU faculty volunteer in their specific field to assist students who need extra help.

Lead Peer Mentoring

The Lead Peer Mentoring Program is designed to help students transition from high school to university and to assist them in making progress and achieve their full potential during their time at KU. If you would like to be a peer mentor please contact Kholoud Elayyan at Kholoud.elayyan@ku.ac.ae.

Teaching Certificate course for Teaching Assistant (TA)

It is a 10-week course on the foundations of teaching practice to support graduate students and postdocs at every stage of their teaching experience.

Leading with Passion and Knowledge certificate course

The CTL is collaborating with the SSD to offer a 7-week course on the foundations of leadership to enhance student knowledge about leadership as a stepping stone to a successful academic and professional career.

Grit

The CTL offers students workshops on how to develop grit (passion and perseverance for long term goals). According to Angela Duckworth, it is one of the first indicators of student success.

Entrepreneurship

CTL offers to students the essentials of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Bootcamps in collaboration with local agencies such as the Emirates Foundation.

Public Speaking

CTL offers student workshops on how to improve their speaking and communication skills.

Problem Solving

CTL offers workshops that help KU students develop the essential skills of problem-solving through teamwork and collaboration.
