As the Dean of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences at Khalifa University, I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to you, inviting you to explore the vibrant community that thrives within our academic walls. Our College stands as a port for an exceptional gathering of students, faculty, and staff, each contributing to the rich textile of knowledge and innovation. These educational pathways are designed not just to impart knowledge but to implant in our students a deep sense of purpose—what we proudly refer to as ‘engineering with a purpose’. This attitude guides our entire academic community, driving us to go beyond the conventional and make a tangible impact on the world through our work. Currently, the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences is home to over 2200 undergraduate students, 400 graduate students, 130 dedicated researchers and staff, and a faculty comprising of 200 accomplished educators. This diverse and dynamic community forms the backbone of our institution, creating an environment where curiosity is cultivated, ideas flourish, and innovation thrives.

Our faculty and researchers lead in generating vital knowledge for societal sustainability, focusing on thematic research in energy, water, environment, and supply chain, which is underpinned by our fundamental strength in advanced materials, manufacturing, robotics and AI. Our students drive holistic solutions through collaborative efforts, showcasing creativity in projects such as freshman design, innovation, and capstone projects. Graduate students excel at the forefront of innovation in diverse engineering and science disciplines, leveraging our state-of-the-art research environment. Together, we strive for impactful contributions to address current challenges and shape a sustainable future.

Overview

One of the main pillars of Abu Dhabi’s social, political, and economic future is a sustainable knowledge-based economy, as outlined in the Abu Dhabi Vision 2030. The overarching purpose of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the Khalifa University of Science and Technology is to work towards this vision by advancing the discovery of new knowledge, its dissemination, and exploitation.

The College of Engineering and Physical Sciences is distinguishing itself as a major contributor towards economic diversification within Abu Dhabi and the region, particularly through its close alignment with growing regional industries in key themes such as energy, aerospace, healthcare, transportation, and information and communication technologies.

The College of Engineering and Physical Sciences is a vibrant community of academic scholars, students, and staff dedicated to engineering education and innovation for the ultimate benefit of society. The College empowers students with a great sense of purposeful academic curiosity about the physical world and appreciation of the social and environmental context within a rapidly changing world.

 

Mission

The College of Engineering and Physical Sciences serves the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the nation, and the world by providing students with holistic education underpinned by the principle of engineering with a purpose, thus empowering them to be outstanding leaders in discovering new knowledge as a catalyst for business innovation, particularly towards the Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.

The College also plays an integral role in this vision by conducting cutting-edge fundamental, multidisciplinary, and translational research in key strategic areas such as information and communication technology, aerospace, transport and logistics, healthcare, energy, and the environment.

About the Program

Introduction & Vision

The KU Co-op Program aims to integrate practical work experience into our students’ academic careers, fostering early industry engagement and skills development. Starting in 2025-26, students will participate in two paid work-terms of 26 weeks each, with opportunities to work locally and internationally, all aligned with their discipline.

Applicants must have a minimum CGPA of 3.25, have completed at least 75 credits to apply, and 90 credits to begin their work term. Additionally, candidates must complete the career preparation course and pass an interview process. This ensures that only motivated and qualified students participate, giving them the best chance for success in both their academic and professional development.
