New Program in Applied Mathematics and Statistics Set to Start at Khalifa University

Unique undergraduate program will offer concentrations in Financial Mathematics and Mathematical Biology.

Khalifa University is launching a new undergraduate program in Applied Mathematics and Statistics set to begin in January 2016. This innovated new program will not only offer students a chance to pursue a general Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics but will offer two unique concentrations in Financial Mathematics and Mathematical Biology. The University’s new program will focus on providing students with real life applications to mathematical theory.

New Undergraduate Program in Applied Mathematics and Statistics at Khalifa UniversityApplied Mathematics and Statistics combines the application of mathematical techniques to the solution of practical problems as well as the collection analysis and presentation of numerical data. It offers students a variety of career choices in industry business government and research laboratories or chance to pursue a variety of graduate degrees or to become teachers.

Students can also choose to concentrate in Financial Mathematics which is a relatively new area of the mathematical sciences and provides the theory and tools necessary for modern-day financial analysis. Students who purse this concentration will be in high demand from banks investment agencies insurance agencies and other financial institutions due to their ability to apply mathematics to financial situations.

Mathematical Biology deals with the study of various biological and medical systems and with the development of biotechnology. The field aims to create the mathematical representation treatment and modeling of biological processes using a variety of applied mathematical techniques and tools. Those graduating with a degree in Mathematical Biology will be in demand by pharmaceutical companies and government agencies.

“Applied Mathematics and Statistics is at the core of many disciplines and the areas of Financial Mathematics and Mathematical Biology are increasingly in demand by many in the public and private sectors ” said Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi Khalifa University’s Executive Vice President. “This undergraduate program is not just theory. Our program will provide students with real-life applications and demonstrations of just how math and statistics work and the impact it can have on many different disciplines. The ability to apply math to financial data or to biological processes or even the ability to teach math in a way that makes the next generation understand its importance is an invaluable skill and that is what Khalifa University aims to do with this degree.”
