Biography

Saleh Ibrahim is a professor of Immunology and associate dean for research at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Khalifa University. With an MD in Immunology and extensive experience in microbiota, and human/mouse genetics his research focuses on investigating population differences in genetic susceptibility to complex diseases and the role of gene-microbiota interactions in the pathogenesis of age-related, e.g. inflammatory and metabolic, diseases.

Dr. Ibrahim's research career started at the Department of Bacteriology and Immunology of Helsinki University, where he received his doctorate in immunology studying the potential influence of bacterial surface proteins on the B cell repertoire. He continued his postdoctoral training in molecular immunology at Princeton University, where he studied the genetic basis of lupus. In 1997, he established an independent research group studying the genetic basis of autoimmune diseases at the University of Rostock, Germany. Later, in 2008, he joined Luebeck University, Germany, as a professor of Genetics and Director of the Genetics Division at the Institute of Experimental Dermatology. He joined Khalifa University in 2022.
