Khalifa University to Hold Second Annual MedCamp

Camp is open to grades 10 and 11 UAE high school students

Khalifa University announced today that it will hold its second annual Medcamp in August. The camp which is open to grades 10 and 11 students from UAE high schools will be held over two separate one week sessions the first will be held from August 3rd to the 7th and the second from August 17th to the 21st.

MedCamp is a one-of-a-kind summer program that is designed to offer a unique experience to young students who aspire to a future career within health sciences. Professional opportunities within the field of health sciences are numerous with many falling outside the limited scope of what is traditionally considered a health science career such as a doctor or nurse. Within the health sciences are career fields such as scientist researcher specialized healthcare provider or forensic scientist and crime scene investigator.

The one-week camps will incorporate a fun and hands-on approach to learning and expose selected high school students to role models and experts in the field of medicine health and wellness.

The UAE is encouraging their young adult population to pursue health sciences in order to meet the objectives of Abu Dhabi Vision 2030. Dr. Rashed Al Nuaimi MD Executive Director College of Medicine & Health Sciences states “it is critical that UAE students are given opportunities to explore the health sciences. MedCamp is a strategic initiative that responds directly to the needs of the students to promote positive attitudes towards careers in medicine and health sciences. Moreover there are very few role models in the health sector interacting with UAE youth and MedCamp aims to bridge this gap by promoting the medical field as a viable option for young local talents. This is the kind of outreach program from universities to high schools that fosters a sense of belonging in higher education and supports youth in their aspirations to become science professionals.”

The camps will be run by Khalifa University students and faculty as well as feature local doctors and healthcare practitioners who will present seminars to the participants.

Interested students can apply online by visiting https://www.ku.ac.ae and selecting the “MedCamp” logo and completing the Campers Application.
