Khalifa University Students come out on Top at the Engineering Students Ethics Competition 2014

Khalifa University student teams recently placed first and second at the Engineering Students Ethics Competition 2014 (ESEC 2014). The event was organized by Khalifa University and Khalifa University’s IEEE Student Branch and held at its Sharjah campus. The event was sponsored by Emirates Advanced Investments Group (EAI).

The aim of the competition was to provide engineering students with the opportunity to demonstrate their appreciation of ethical issues and responsibilities. The prime objectives of this event were; to foster familiarity with the IEEE Code of Ethics and ethical concepts to promote a model for discussing and analyzing ethical questions to provide experience in applying ethical concepts to typical professional situations and to enhance engineering students’ understanding of their ethical duties as professionals.

Six teams from Khalifa University UAEU and Ajman University of Science and Technology (AUST) in the UAE participated in ESEC2014.

The first prize in this year’s competition was awarded to Khalifa University’s team 1 consisting of students Hadeel Walid Mohammad Esra Alhadrami and Mohamed Ibrahim Alhajri. The team was supervised by Prof. Saleh Al-Araji. The second prize was awarded to Khalifa University’s team 2 consisting of students Aamenah Siddiqui Malak Y. Elsalamouny and Umalkhair A. Ahmed. The team was supervised by Dr. Raja Jayaraman.

Dr. Arif Sultan Al-Hammadi Khalifa University’s Executive Vice President said: “This year’s event forms part of our continued commitment to ensure that we provide engineering students with that vital link between the theoretical knowledge gained at university with real life applied engineering situations. We believe that the challenges this competition provides will greatly assist students as they prepare to enter the job market after graduation and goes a long way toward providing the human capital needed to create the knowledge economy as envisioned in the Abu Dhabi 2030 plan.”

The panel of judges for this year’s competition consisted of Dr. Kahtan Ismail Aziz Al Ghurair University Chair Prof. Ghalib Y. Kahwaji Rochester Institute of Technology Dubai and Dr. Majed Khodr American University of Ras Al Khaimah.
