The UAE’s Journey toward the Fulfillment of the SDGs

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership.

The Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre (FCSC) serves as the Secretariat of the UAE National Committee on SDGs. It consist of 16 federal-entities, mandated to report and monitor progress made towards the SDGs. FCSC is working closely with the different stakeholders from government sector, private sector, academia, youth and civil society on the fulfillment of the SDGs in collaborative an innovative manner. Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MOEI) is one of the key members in the UAE National Committee on SDGs.

In this session, Ms. Reem Al Hammadi (FCSC) and Eng. Nawal Al Hanaee (MOEI) will shed light on the UAEs journey towards the fulfillment of the SDGs in partnership with MOEI. MOEI is the local custodian agency of SDG 6 Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG 7 Affordable and Clean Energy, and SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, and as such has a responsibility to lead, contribute, monitor and report the UAE’s achievements and progress towards the indicated objectives of making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable by 2030.
