Pd and Carbon Molecular Sieve Membranes for Hydrogen Separation and Production

March 8, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

The use of hydrogen is expected to grow rapidly in the near future by replacing oil and gas. Hydrogen can store and deliver usable energy, but it does not typically exist by itself in nature and must be produced from compounds that contain it and then be separated from a mixture with other gases. Among the methods for hydrogen separation, membrane technology provides important advantages in terms of more flexible operations for different conditions, higher production rates and the possibility to be combined into multi-purpose devices, like membrane reactors. In this presentation, the development of supported palladium alloy and carbon molecular sieve membranes for the separation of hydrogen and their incorporation in membrane reactor to produce hydrogen from steam reforming of methane and fuels (MeOH, DME) from CO2 and H2 will be presented.
