Dr. Omar Mahmoud is an Assistant Professor of Petroleum Engineering at the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Khalifa University. Prior to joining Khalifa University, he served as an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Future University in Egypt (FUE), where he also held the role of Acting Head of the Department of Petroleum Engineering.
•Dr. Mahmoud has valuable industry experience as a petroleum engineer with the North American Unconventional Resources (NAUR) team at Apache Corporation in San Antonio, USA. He earned his Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University, where he also worked as a Graduate Research Assistant in the Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering.
•Earlier in his career, he spent eight years as an Assistant Lecturer and Teaching/Research Assistant at the Faculty of Petroleum and Mining Engineering, Suez University, Egypt, where he obtained both his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Petroleum Engineering.
•His expertise spans both academia and industry, with research interests including drilling fluids, oilfield chemistry, nanoparticle applications, enhanced oil recovery, formation damage and remediation, well stimulation, well integrity, drilling engineering, unconventional resources, reservoir simulation, CO₂ utilization, machine learning and artificial intelligence applications, and pressure transient and production data analysis.
•Dr. Mahmoud currently serves as an Associate Editor for SPE Journal. In recognition of his contributions, he has received the SPE Technical Reviewer Award for four consecutive years (2022–2025) and the SPE Associate Editor Award in 2025. He was also honored with the 2025 “A Peer Apart” Award, recognizing individuals who have completed more than 100 reviews or Associate Editor assignments for SPE’s peer-reviewed journals.
