Biography

Dr. Dimitris M. Manias obtained his Ph.D. in Multi-scale Analysis from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, in 2020. Prior to this, he completed his M.Sc. in Applied Mechanics in 2013 and his M.Eng. in Applied Mathematics and Physical Sciences in 2011, both from the same institution. During his doctoral studies, he made multiple academic visits to institutions including Sapienza, ETH Zurich, KAUST, and Khalifa University. In 2021, he joined Khalifa University as a Postdoctoral Fellow.

Dr. Manias specializes in the development and application of algorithmic tools for analyzing complex multi-scale mathematical models. He employs advanced mathematical methodologies for the algorithmic asymptotic analysis and construction of reduced-dimension models, aiming to achieve system-level understanding. This is accomplished by identifying the key subprocesses and important variables within these models, where the need for simplified models is essential, especially when it comes to data that consist of hundreds of variables.

Currently, his research is focused on harnessing the potential of artificial intelligence in biological multi-scale systems. His interests also include the use of AI methodologies to enhance privacy in the blockchain framework and to improve the cybersecurity of the Smart Grid. He serves as a Lab Instructor for the undergraduate course of Data Analytics.

His work has led to 18 publications in esteemed international journals and book chapters. Furthermore, Dr. Manias has actively participated in various international conferences and has forged collaborative relationships with renowned groups at prestigious institutions such as Cambridge, KAUST, Sapienza, ETH Zurich, and Princeton.
