Biography

Ahmed Abdelmaksoud is currently a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Earth Sciences at Khalifa University of Science and Technology.

Abdelmaksoud began his academic career at Assiut University, where he served as a Teaching Assistant in Geology and Geophysics from 2014 to 2019. During his doctoral studies at Khalifa University, he also served as a Teaching Assistant before joining the university as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in March 2024.

His research integrates seismic interpretation, potential-field methods, basin modeling, petrophysical analysis, 3D geological modeling, and marine geophysical datasets to investigate sedimentary basin evolution, petroleum systems, reservoir architecture, tectonic controls, and seabed fluid-flow processes.

His recent work includes studies on the Oman-UAE Mountains, Fujairah Basin in Gulf of Oman, Arabian Sea seafloor gas venting, Abu Dhabi tectonostratigraphy, New Zealand sedimentary basins, and petroleum system modeling in structurally complex settings, including passive margins and fold-and-thrust belts.

He recently led an investigation that documented the first reported evidence of pockmarks and active seafloor gas seepage along the Arabian continental margin in the Gulf of Oman. This work highlights the potential role of Gulf of Oman seepage systems in contributing carbon flux to the Arabian Sea and atmosphere.

Abdelmaksoud has published extensively in highly ranked journals. He also serves the scientific community as a reviewer for several reputable journals, including Tectonics, Scientific Reports, Marine Geoscience and Energy Resources, Tectonophysics, Journal of Applied Geophysics, Energy Geoscience, Geoenergy Science and Engineering, Marine Geophysical Research, Natural Resources Research, and Petroleum Science.

In addition, he serves as an Editorial Board Member for Petroleum Geoscience (GSL) and Discover Geoscience (Springer), contributing to advancing high-quality research in geoscience, energy resources, and subsurface studies.
