Biography

Mahmoud Ali is a Petroleum Engineering Research Associate at Khalifa University with over six years of experience as a lab engineer specializing in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR). He holds both a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering from Kuwait University. Mahmoud has conducted routine and special core analysis tests and various EOR core flooding experiments, including water, nanoparticles, chemical, and acid flooding. He is familiar in PVT tests and flow assurance studies, including compositional analyses like SARA and extended gas and liquid analysis, and CT scanning and digital rock analysis. Prior to his current role, he worked on joint projects between Kuwait University and Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) evaluating polymers for EOR applications. Mahmoud also served as a Research Assistant and later Senior Research Assistant at the Enhanced Oil Recovery Center at Kuwait University, where he supervised students, contributed to scientific manuscripts and reports, and managed the center's budget and equipment procurement.

Residual Oil and Remaining Oil Evaluation in Abu Dhabi Carbonate Reservoirs

The project titled "Residual Oil and Remaining Oil Evaluation in Abu Dhabi Carbonate Reservoirs" is funded by ADNOC. I am working as a Research Associate on this project. The study focuses on determining residual oil saturation in Abu Dhabi's carbonate reservoirs through laboratory centrifuge and flooding experiments using both outcrop and reservoir core samples. These samples represent a wide range of permeability and porosity across different carbonate formations. Artificial Intelligence techniques are employed to enhance data analysis and modeling. The goal is to improve the accuracy of residual oil saturation estimation, which is crucial for optimizing water-flooding strategies and selecting effective and economically feasible enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods. Both experimental and numerical approaches are utilized in this project.
