Dr. Selena Richards holds an MChem (Hons) in Chemistry with Analytical Chemistry and Toxicology, a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Hull, UK, and a PGCert HE from Nottingham Trent University, UK. Prior to joining Khalifa University as an Assistant Professor, she served as a lecturer/senior lecturer at Nottingham Trent University (NTU), UK, teaching chemistry and forensic science at all levels. At NTU, Dr. Richards developed a 'drugs of abuse' module and introduced chemometrics into the analytical chemistry curriculum. She also fostered industrial partnerships, collaborating with Nottinghamshire Police, UK, for the analysis of seized drug samples and with Imperial Tobacco, UK, for identifying counterfeit tobacco products using spectroscopy and chemometrics. Her research on metal hydrides received support from the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) ISIS Neutron source. During her post-doctoral studies at Imperial College London, UK, Biomolecular group, she developed an interest in metabonomics, contributing to numerous journal articles, book chapters, and patents. Currently, her research focuses on extracting metabolic, genomic, and socioeconomic markers related to the early onset of type 2 diabetes mellitus in UAE populations, as well as kinetic modeling of acyl glucuronides and glucosides.
