Why Khalifa University has launched the new benefits scheme?

In line with the global best practices, Khalifa University has initiated some changes in the academic programs, and launched a new scheme of scholarships and benefits for Bachelor, Master’s and PhD, in order to increase the overall focus on research and innovation, while enhancing PhD offering for high-caliber students.

What are the new arrangements and benefits schemes for Undergraduates?

  • Free transportation*
  • Free accommodation*
  • Financial aid*

* for eligible students as per KU policy and processes.

Note: No stipend will be offered to Emirati and International students

Are bachelor students eligible for other financial aid?

Yes, students in need may receive financial aid. However, terms and conditions apply in such cases.

Are there changes to benefits for Emirati bachelor students?

All Emirati students who signed the admission contract, prior to joining the UAE National Service, will continue to be covered under the pre-existing scheme.

What are the new bachelor degree tuition packages?

All applicants are evaluated and mapped to a specific scholarship Tier on the basis of academic merit and other relevant factors, in line with University strategic priorities.

I am currently a bachelor student but would like to pursue my Master’s/PhD program at Khalifa University. Will I be enrolled under the new scheme or the current?

Bachelor graduates will be enrolled under the new scheme for Master’s or directly to PhD.

I am a bachelor student who is about to graduate and would like to pursue my graduate studies at Khalifa University. Am I eligible to apply for direct PhD programs?

High-caliber bachelor graduates, satisfying the admission criteria with a minimum CGPA of 3.5 (or equivalent), may be eligible for direct admission to PhD programs.  However, meeting the minimum admission criteria does not guarantee admission.

What are the new arrangements and benefits for Master’s?

Scholarship eligibility is assessed as part of the admission process and applicants are not required to submit a separate scholarship application.

The number of available scholarship slots is limited.

All applicants are evaluated and mapped to a specific scholarship Tier on the basis of academic merit and other relevant factors, in line with Khalifa University’s strategic priorities. Meeting the minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee a scholarship award.

Scholarship benefits for Master’s students may include the following, depending on the Tier:

  • Waiver of tuition fees up to 100%.
  • Health insurance for full-time international students sponsored by Khalifa University.
  • Free University accommodation only for full-time eligible students.
  • Mobilization and demobilization flights for full-time overseas international students.
  • Coverage of UAE visa application fees for full-time international students.
  • Textbooks provided by the University.

Teaching and service duties are not mandatory. Students will have the opportunity to earn financial compensation for services provided to Khalifa University.

Master’s students will be required to complete a minimum number of credit hours, consisting of thesis and taught courses, as per the relevant degree structure.

The normal time to completion for a full-time student is one academic year.

What are the new Master’s degree tuition fees?

Are Master’s degree students eligible for monthly stipend?

No, however, students will have the option to earn financial compensation for services provided to the University (e.g. teaching duties).

I am currently a Master’s student but would like to pursue my PhD at Khalifa University. Will I be enrolled under the new scheme or the current?

Master’s graduates will be enrolled under the new scheme for PhD.  However, current students holding the Combined Master/PhD scholarship will continue receiving the same benefits without any change as per the existing scholarship contract.

Scholarship benefits for PhD students may include the following, depending on the Tier:

  • Waiver of tuition fees up to 100%.
  • Competitive monthly stipend for high caliber UAE National and international students.
  • Health insurance for full-time international students sponsored by Khalifa University.
  • Free University accommodation only for full-time eligible students.
  • Mobilization and demobilization flights for full-time overseas international students.
  • Coverage of UAE visa application fees for full-time international students.
  • Textbooks provided by the University.
  • Applicants who select work commitment path will be committed to work and contribute to KU’s research objectives upon study completion for a period equivalent to the period of study.
  • Applicants may pursue PhD studies without a work commitment after graduation, however scholarship benefits will vary.

How would I know which Tier I belong to?

The scholarship Tier will be stated in your admission offer.

To whom is the new scheme applicable?

The new benefits scheme is applicable to all undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD students newly admitted from Fall 2023 onwards.

Has the Medical Doctors scholarship changed under the new scheme?

No. Medical Doctors scholarship remains the same.

Are current KU students affected by the new scheme?

Current KU students will continue to receive all their existing benefits without any change and they are not impacted by the new scheme.
