Recent Advances in 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing

April 28, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

The area of additive manufacturing (AM) or commonly referred to as 3D printing is revolutionizing today’s manufacturing and is at the forefront of Industry 4.0.  In fact, AM is a global disruptive technology transforming many industries due to increased creativity in product design, ability to fabricate complex parts, easiness in the production process, reducing cost and time of manufacturing on demand. Several UAE industrial and governmental sectors started employing AM due to UAE 3D printing strategy in making UAE the world’s 3D printing hub by 2030.

In this talk, Dr. Rashid Abu Al-Rub, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Director of the Advanced Digital & Additive Manufacturing (ADAM) center, will present the recent advances in AM in terms of 3D printers, materials for 3D printing, digital design, and novel applications of AM will be covered. Several application case studies showing the potential of AM will be presented. The capabilities and current research activities within the recently established Khalifa University ADAM Center will also be emphasized.
