Dr Glenda El Gamal is a Senior Lecturer in the English Department at Khalifa University, with 18 years’ experience specializing in Academic Writing for STEM and Technical Writing. Dr El Gamal has formal teaching qualifications from Australia (QUT), and is highly active in service activities at the KU Centre of Teaching and Learning as a CTL Champion. She also works on interdisciplinary projects across the university with the College of Engineering.
Internationally, Dr El Gamal is on the Executive Board of AILA (International Association of Applied Linguistics that has over 8000 members) and serves as the Research Networks Coordinator. She is also the book review editor of the Wiley International Journal of Applied Linguistics (INJAL). Prior to KU, she worked at Masdar Institute (affiliated with MIT) as English faculty, teaching technical writing, research methodology and thesis preparation to Master’s and PhD students. Dr El Gamal has presented her research internationally, and has been an Invited speaker at international and regional professional events.
Dr El Gamal has published in refereed journals and book chapters on English Medium Instruction, intercultural communication and language pedagogy. Her current research projects include co-editing a book on English as a Medium of Instruction on the Arabian Peninsula (for Routledge) and co-developing an interdisciplinary project on safety in the workplace for Engineering interns.
