Biography

Dr. Ahmed Omia Rashed is a Postdoctoral Fellow who joined the Petroleum and Chemical Engineering Department at Khalifa University in April 2024 as a member of RICH Center.

Dr. Rashed obtained his Master of Science in Chemistry with honours from The American University in Cairo (AUC) in 2018. Dr. Rashed went on to Postgraduate studies at Deakin University, Australia, where he obtained his PhD in Materials Science and Chemical Engineering in 2023.

Dr. Rashed previously worked as a Chemist, Research, and Teaching Assistant at The American University in Cairo (AUC) (2010-2019). He also worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Deakin University, Australia (2023-2024).

Dr. Rashed’s expertise lies within the development of multifunctional nanoporous materials for separation and catalytic applications, including water treatment, carbon dioxide reduction, energy conversion, environmental, and healthcare applications. His work is primarily focused on the synthesis of nanocomposite membrane and electrode materials using carbon nanomaterials for photo/electro-catalytic applications, including persistent organic and pathogenic pollutant removal and carbon dioxide conversion to beneficial fuels. Dr. Rashed already synthesized novel membrane materials from carbon nanotubes for water desalination, and wastewater treatment applications.

Dr. Rashed is a highly experienced chemist with an extensive background in materials chemistry, fibre processing, electrochemistry, and membrane fabrication for water treatment and catalytic applications. He has wide range of experience including developing and implementing advanced techniques and solutions for diverse research projects. Dr. Rashed has published various peer-reviewed papers in high impact top 10% journals in Chemistry, Materials Science and Chemical Engineering.

Dr. Rashed managed to showcase and present his work in multiple reputable international conferences. In 2020, Dr. Rashed received the best poster award in the international conference on membrane science and technology in Sydney. In 2022, his work was showcased and highlighted by Australian National Fabrication Facility to revolutionise the filtration capabilities of wastewater treatment plants towards sustainability and circular economy goals. In 2023, Ahmed received the best publication award from Deakin University. He secured multiple research grants and funds during his PhD work at Deakin University in Australia.

Dr. Rashed is an active member of the American Chemical Society, the European Membrane Society, and the Membrane Society of Australasia.
