Biography

Dr Adolf Acquaye, is an Associate Professor in Industrial and Systems Engineering, who is very passionate about supporting students in their thinking and learning journey. As a partner of the students in this process, he seeks to enrich and stimulate their learning experience to enhance and create knowledge for impact. 

Previous to joining Khalifa University, Dr Acquaye worked at the Dubai campus of Rochester Institute of Technology where he was also the Program Director of the Master’s in Engineering in Engineering Management program. Before then, he was Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and then Reader in the Department of Analytics, Operations & Systems, Kent Business School, University of Kent, UK.

Dr Acquaye’s expertise lies in Sustainability and Sustainable Development domain. He has been appointed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Global Environmental Outlook (GEO-7) to be part of the team conducting its flagship assessment on Policy Responses and Solutions Pathways for Transforming Environmental Systems. 

He also served as on Working Group III of the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Sixth Assessment (AR6) between 2018-2022. He also previously served during the the Fifth Assessment cycle (AR5) (2012-2014). His work with the IPCC provides technical input into sustainability-related assessments including technological options for climate change mitigation and socio-economic analysis of climate change, etc.

He has consulted for many UK-based companies on sustainability-related projects. He also worked on the Low Carbon Supply Chain project with the Stockholm Environment Institute and the Centre for Low Carbon Futures, UK and the Big Energy Upgrade Project in Sheffield, UK. Dr Acquaye has won ≈$680,000 in Research Funding from the European Commission’s Horizon 2020: Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions Innovative Training Networks (ITN), British Academy’s Global Challenge Research Fund and from the Society for the Advancement of Management Studies (UK). 

Dr Acquaye serves on the Editorial Board of Energies and has Guest Editored Special Issues in Energies and on Multi-Criteria Decision Making for Sustainable Development: Theory, Models and Applications in the Journal of Environmental Accounting and Management. His research which cuts across sustainability-related issues has been published in   and   ABDC Journal List such as European Journal of Operational Research (EJOR), International Journal of Production Economics (IJPE), Journal of Environmental Management, International Journal of Production Research (IJPR), Ecological Economics, Omega: The International Journal of Management Science, Supply Chain Management: an International Journal, Energy Policy, etc.

Dr Adolf Acquaye is a member of the Advances in Cleaner Production Network (ACPN) and a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy.
