Brief Description

Clinical Psychologist is responsible to diagnose or evaluate mental and emotional disorders of MD students through observation, interview, and psychological tests, and formulate and administer programs of treatment.

Detailed Description
  • Liaise closely with Manager of Student of Success in the management of counseling programs; analyze special and/or complex problems and providing advice on all matters of counseling and related issues.
  • Collaborate with college Deans about learning, social and behavioral problems that students may be experiencing.
  • Counsel students and groups regarding problems such as stress, substance abuse, and family situations, in order to modify behavior and/or to improve personal, social, and vocational adjustment.
  • Provide psychological evaluation such as neuro-cognitive, personality, anxiety and trauma
  • Diagnose or evaluate mental and emotional disorders of students through observation, interview, and psychological tests, and formulate and administer programs of treatment.
  • Develop and implement individual treatment plans, specifying type, frequency, intensity, and duration of therapy.
  • Identify psychological, emotional, or behavioral issues, and diagnose disorders, using information obtained from interviews, tests, records, and reference materials.
  • Interact with students to assist them in gaining insight, defining goals, and planning action to achieve effective personal, social, educational, and vocational development and adjustment.
  • Observe students at classroom, in-group interactions, or in other contexts to detect indications of mental issues, abnormal behavior, or maladjustment.
  • Select, administer, score, and interpret psychological tests in order to obtain information on student’s intelligence, achievements, interests, and personalities.
  • Plan, supervise, and conduct psychological research, and write papers describing research results
  • Support students with solving problems and conflicts related to learning and adjustment, counselling, social skills training and any other appropriate interventions.
  • Initiate, plan and lead workshops and psychotherapeutic programs for students and staff in response to identified needs
  • Deliver an effective student counseling service in a transparent manner. Identify needs, evaluate alternatives and implement solutions to enhance the experience and benefit for users.
  • Lead the determination, evaluation and structuring of individual and group counseling services.
  • Refer students to external counseling or support as required and follow up on their progress.
  • Lead the development and implementation of Khalifa university policies and procedures related to student counselling in line with professional best practice.
  • Provide advice to students, faculty and staff on all matters of counseling policy and procedures, codes of practice and related issues;
  • Ensure the maintenance of accurate records and ensure confidentiality and privacy of student personal concerns, requests and records.
  • Foster a culture of highest ethical professional standards.
  • Adhere to the University’s information security and confidentiality policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly
  • Coordinate with other departments to facilitate the accomplishment of tasks and responsibilities, as and when needed
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provide coaching, guidance and mentoring as required to enhance the internal capabilities of the team and ensure the achievement of established objectives and plans.
  • Recommend appropriate training courses as per the pre-determined training needs, evaluate their effectiveness, and monitor their results.
  • Carry out performance appraisals for subordinates according to planned schedules and recommend necessary actions as per the applied practices.
  • Conduct periodic meetings with subordinates to ensure that priorities are clear and workflow is running smoothly.
  • Follow-up on employees’ administrative affairs such as vacations, leaves and other administrative and related affairs.
Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in clinical or counseling psychology

Required Experience

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in medical education
  • Familiarity or experience with an education institution in the Middle East.
  • Qualified for faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher
