Dr. Athol Yates and Dr. Glenda El Gamal will discuss three examples of adventure novels set in the Emirates in the 1950s and 1960s, and explain why they were so popular and what they say about how the outside world viewed the Emirates at that time.
Dr. Athol Yates teaches on civil security, security technology, internal security, disaster management, public policy and research methods. His research focuses on the UAE public policy decision making, machinery of government, and UAE security structure and organizations. He has a particular interest in military, policing and intelligence history of the UAE.
