Dr. Athol Yates teaches on civil security, security technology, internal security, disaster management, public policy and research methods. His research focuses on the UAE public policy decision making, machinery of government, and UAE security structure and organizations. He has a particular interest in military, policing and intelligence history of the UAE.
He will be talking about the process of writing books on military and policing history of the UAE. It will cover his three books:

- Naval Force of Abu Dhabi 1967-1976 (2019)
- The Military and Police Forces of the Trucial States and United Arab Emirates 1951-1980 (2018)
