Radiochemistry Lab (8036)

The radiometrics laboratory is dedicated to work with radioactivity measurement. The soil experiments are carried out in the laboratory in order to describe the adsorption capacity of soils which come from the local environment. Moreover, the impact of high salinity on adsorption is investigated.

Instruments dedicated to sample preparation/radioactivity measurement:

1. Samples are prepared for analysis by the specific instruments: mill, lyophilizer, press, furnace, centrifuge, sieve etc.
2. XRF (Rontgen fluorescence spectrometry) Puma II is an effective tool for elemental analyses of metals. It is generally non-destructive method which does not need pre-treatment of sample, equipped with conveyer which allows automatic measurement of several samples
3. TRICARB is instrument for liquid scintillation analyses of alpha and beta radioactive emitters. It has a special role in determination of tritium and isotope carbon 14 which are beta emitters.
4. Alpha spectrometry PERAL Ordela is special instrument based on liquid scintillation for rapid determination of alpha emitters.
5. Shielding for gamma detector is made of the lead bricks which eliminate the background radiation coming to the detector. The detector, High Purity Germanium (HPGe) or NaITl, is placed inside the empty space which allows to detect radiation coming particularly from a sample. It is also accompanied with a automatic sample changer (ASC).
