Assistant Professor - Chemical & Petroleum Engineering

DESCRIPTION

Khalifa University is a leading academic institution dedicated to providing world-class education, research, and innovation. The Department invites applications for multiple positions in all areas of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, with particular interest in candidates specializing in Process Systems Engineering and Modeling, at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.

The responsibilities of faculty members shall be an appropriate combination of:

a) Dissemination of knowledge through undergraduate and/or graduate teaching
b) Research, scholarly, or other creative activities
c) University, community, and professional service

 Key Roles & Responsibilities

Strategic Responsibilities

Operational Responsibilities

Teaching:

  • Teach at undergraduate and graduate levels in subject areas allocated by the Department Chair
  • Prepare and regularly update course materials including syllabi, lesson plans, and assessments
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a high-quality curriculum
  • Provide students with clear instructional materials, evaluation methods, and feedback
  • Monitor student performance and provide additional academic support as needed
  • Supervise student research projects and theses
  • Participate in academic peer reviews and teaching internships
  • Utilize modern instructional technology to ensure clear and consistent delivery
  • Continuously enhance teaching effectiveness and subject mastery

Research, Scholarly and Creative Activities:

  • Conduct impactful research in areas such as process modeling, process optimization, control, operations research, systems integration, and sustainability assessment
  • Produce high-quality publications and research outputs in line with agreed objectives
  • Present research findings at professional meetings, seminars, and conferences
  • Actively pursue external funding and collaborative research opportunities
  • Contribute to raising the department’s research profile both regionally and internationally
  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration within and beyond the department
  • Participate in internal seminars and collaborative research activities

Academic Service:

  • Participate in departmental and university-wide committees and initiatives
  • Support student recruitment, retention, and placement activities
  • Contribute to community engagement in a developmental or advisory capacity
  • Support student organizations and extracurricular academic activities
  • Engage in outreach and academic service including peer reviewing and editorial contributions
  • Maintain a strong commitment to a safe and healthy work environment
  • Perform other academic duties as assigned by the Line Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities

supervision of research staff (e.g., postdocs).

 


Qualifications


Qualifications & Experience

Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution is required.

Required Experience

  • Assistant Professor: Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience and demonstrated research potential.
  • Associate Professor: Minimum of 8 years of teaching or research experience, including at least 5 years at the Assistant Professor level.
  • Professor: Minimum of 10 years of teaching and research experience, including at least 5 years at the Associate Professor level, with a strong record of excellence in research, teaching, and mentoring.
