Khalifa University Student Comes 2nd in Imagine Cup Pan-Arab Semi Finals

Khalifa University student Khalid Al Awar has come second in the Pan-Arab Semi Finals of the Microsoft Imagine Cup which took place in Bahrain from May 31 to June 3 2015. Khalid had previously won first place in the Games Category of the UAE leg of the competition for his innovative mobile application that turned a popular Gulf board game into a fun 3D mobile game. The app called Cayram has been downloaded close to 1 million times to date with over half a million of those downloads coming from the GCC.

The Pan-Arab Semi Finals brought together the national winners from Algeria Bahrain Egypt Jordan Kuwait Lebanon Morocco Oman Palestine Qatar Saudi Arabia Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates with the first place winner going on to compete in the finals in Seattle USA.

Khalid is the first Emirati to win the national leg of the Imagine Cup since its inception. The Microsoft Imagine Cup is one of the world’s most prestigious global student technology competitions. It provides opportunities for students across all disciplines to team up and use their creativity passion and knowledge of technology to create applications games and integrated solutions that can change the way we live work and play.

Khalid who is a sophomore in Computer Engineering at Khalifa University originally designed the app when he was 16. Cayram is a popular GCC multiplayer board game that requires a high level of skill and accuracy.
