Two PhD students from the KU-ATLAS Group, Khalid Mekhemar and Abdel Rahman, actively participated in The Van der Meer (vdM) scan programme at CERN during the LHC proton-proton beam run in the summer and the heavy-ion beam run in November, gaining hands-on experience in one of the most precision-critical procedures of the ATLAS experiment.
Many thanks to the ATLAS Collaboration for providing COLA support during their visit to CERN. Building on this experience, they are now leading, together with their colleagues at CERN and partner universities, the luminosity calibration effort using the 2025 dataset, a task that is essential for ensuring the accuracy of all cross-section measurements and other measurements performed within the ATLAS Collaboration.
