Abstract

Graphene has remarkable mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties. Tapping these incredible properties successfully could provide extremely enhanced-engineered solutions for various problems. Here, we are demonstrating the successful encapsulation of graphene in microcapsules (MCs) designed for self-healing coatings. The graphene infused MCs have shown superior mechanical properties ideal for corrosion resistant applications. Furthermore, combined with phase change materials (PCMs), graphene infused MCs tend to exhibit enhanced thermal performance suitable for thermal energy storage applications. Microencapsulated PCMs offer the advantages of protecting the PCM from external stimuli, preventing leakage and enabling easier handling and transport in some cases. This work presents the enhancement of PCMs by infusing various types of graphene flakes in the MCs.
