President’s Academic Advisory Council (PAAC) Convenes to Share Strategies and Review KU Programs

Internationally-recognized PAAC members help advance Khalifa University.

The President’s Academic Advisory Council (PAAC) met March 15-16 2015 as part of its charge to counsel the President of Khalifa University on issues of importance. Consisting of internationally known leaders representing the fields of education and research PAAC Members provide professional knowledge and experience in addition to a genuine commitment to the advancement and welfare of the University.

Topics discussed during PAAC’s semi-annual meeting included new degree programs and course development updates on internships and career placements research strategies and graduate student recruitment.  

“The PAAC continues to be an excellent mechanism for Khalifa University and me to receive advice about our academic programs and research directions from leaders in higher education throughout the world ” explains President Tod A. Laursen. “This week’s meeting provided them with an opportunity to meet with our leaders faculty and students as well as share wisdom from their significant experience.”

PAAC Members visiting Khalifa University at this meeting included Sir John O’Reilly former Director General of Knowledge & Innovation in the UK and past Vice Chancellor of Cranfield University; Don Giddens Past President of the American Society of Engineering Education and Dean Emeritus of Engineering at Georgia Tech; and  Bertil Andersson President of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

The PAAC periodically provides a report to the Board of Trustees of Khalifa University on the opportunities and challenges facing the University. The purpose of this report is to foster formal communication between the Trustees and the PAAC and to enhance innovation and continuous improvement at the University.
