NASA Chief Scientist Inspires Students

Dr. Ellen Stofan Chief Scientist at NASA inspired students and faculty on October 28 with her talk on NASA’s science programs Mars 2030 and beyond. Her talk motivated the room full of future engineers and future industry leaders some of whom aspire to contribute to the UAE’s own Mars Mission which is scheduled to take place in 2020 and involves the launch of a satellite.

Stofan who was appointed Chief Scientist on August 25 2013 currently serves as principal advisor to NASA Administrator Charles Bolden on the agencies science programs and science-related strategic planning and investments. Previously Dr. Stofan’s research has focused on the geology of Venus Mars Saturn’s moon Titan and Earth. Stofan is an associate member of the Cassini Mission to Saturn Radar Team and a co-investigator on the Mars Express Mission’s MARSIS sounder. She also was principal investigator on the Titan Mare Explorer a proposed mission to send a floating lander to a sea on Titan.
