A Khalifa University team took first place in the 7th Engineering Students Ethics Competition (ESEC 2015) held at the University’s Sharjah Campus. The event was sponsored by Emirates Advanced Investments Group (EAI) and was organized by Khalifa University and the KU student branch of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

The team of Shamma Abdelrahman Saleh Nasir Almazmi Sara Abdulla Ahmad Bahlooq and Mohammad Ali Mohammad Rashed Alsharid earned top honors for KU. The second prize was awarded to the Ajman University of Science and Technology team of Roua Abdulrahim Armita Farsiani and Yasmine Saoud. Third prize was awarded to the American University of Sharjah team of Shouq Darwish Yomna Omar and Eiman Ayman Mahmoud Elghanam.

The competition provided engineering students with the opportunity to demonstrate their appreciation of ethical issues and responsibilities. The prime objectives were to foster familiarity with the IEEE Code of Ethics and ethical concepts; to promote a model for discussing and analyzing ethical questions; to provide experience in applying ethical concepts to typical professional situations; and to enhance engineering students’ understanding of their ethical duties as professionals.

Eight teams from eight major institutions representing the UAE Kuwait Oman and Bahrain participated in ESEC2015.

“This year’s event forms part of our continued commitment to ensure that we provide engineering students with that vital link between the theoretical knowledge gained at university with applied engineering situations. We believe that the challenges this competition provides will greatly assist students as they prepare to enter the job market after graduation.”
