Khalifa University team places 2nd at Annual Mathematics Competition

A team of Khalifa University students were among the winners in the second annual Mathematics competition that was held at Abu Dhabi University (Al Ain Campus) on the 22nd of February 2014. The team won the first round that featured teams from around the country and placed second in the second round. 

The competition was on a national scale with teams representing high schools grades 11 and 12 as well as undergraduate students from several local universities (NYUAD UAEU Al Ain University ADU Amity University and KU) in attendance. This year 50 teams were registered two of whom were from Khalifa University namely the KU Twin Primes team made up of students Mohammed Ather and Abdulrahman AlHadhrami and KU 1011 consisting of students Rana Azzam and Kaltham Al Romaithi. The teams were accompanied by Dr. Rachad Zaki assistant professor in Mathematics who acted as their coach.

The competition was a two-round online based one where the participants had 60 minutes to answer 20 questions each time. In the first round that featured all participating teams KU Twin Primes placed first answering 17 out of 20 questions correctly and KU 1011 placed fourth. The second round took place just after the first and it involved only 13 teams 3 of whom were the top ranked university teams in the first round and the top 10 high school teams as per the competition rules. KU Twin Primes participated in that round as the leading university team in the first round and placed second.
