Khalifa University of Science and Technology to Showcase Research in Water, Energy and Environment at WETEX 2017

The Khalifa University of Science and Technology a research university dedicated to the advancement of learning through teaching and research and to the discovery and application of knowledge today announced it will showcase some of its key water and energy-related research projects at the upcoming Water Energy and Environment Technology Exhibition (WETEX) 2017.

Held under the directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance WETEX 2017 will take place on 23-25 October at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center.

The Khalifa University of Science and Technology stand (stand CF2 Hall 6) will showcase a number of water and energy-related research projects. They include projects to reduce the cost and improve the efficiency of photovoltaic cells solar-powered atmospheric water collection low-cost solar humidification-dehumidification (HDH) desalination a novel system for air quality monitoring in the UAE using advanced satellite and modeling techniques optimization of hybrid refinery wastewater treatment processes novel materials for the capture of carbon dioxide for use in enhanced oil recovery thermal energy storage solutions to ensure constant power supply from renewable resources and water production from humidity using smart materials.

Faculty and students working on these projects will be present to explain their intended impacts on the water and energy sectors. The university’s participation in WETEX 2017 aims to generate collaboration with stakeholders including government bodies and industry partners.

Dr. Arif Al Hammadi Interim Executive Vice President of Khalifa University of Science and Technology said: “Our university has immense research and innovation strengths that can help develop new technologies and contribute to the UAE’s strategic requirements in water and energy. The projects we are showcasing at WETEX 2017 demonstrate not only our capabilities in clean energy water and environmental technologies but also our research collaborations which continue to increase.”

Khalifa University of Science and Technology recently won three honors in the national organizations category of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award 2017. Two projects jointly won first place while another one received third place in the awards that aim to find and support innovative solutions to water shortage and scarcity worldwide.

Since becoming a merged university earlier this year Khalifa University of Science and Technology has seen its reputation grow. In the recently announced World University Rankings compiled annually by the prestigious Times Higher Education the university ranked highest in UAE achieving the 301-350 bracket of the list of 1 102 universities from 77 countries.

WETEX is an annual exhibition that provides a platform for businessmen investors government decision-makers consumers and business partners with an interest in the public and private sectors. It focuses on promoting innovative green solutions and technologies in the areas of water clean and renewable energy environment oil and gas and environmental sustainability.

The event which coincides with the second Dubai Solar Show is being held under the umbrella of the fourth ‘Green Week’ and is expected to see a large turnout from public and private institutions that provide environmental solutions and green technologies.
