Khalifa University Hosts Demonstration of Mobile Apps by Winning Teams

Teams who won the recent Best m-Government Service Award Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Awards will demonstrate their winning apps.

Khalifa University hosted a demonstration of mobile applications that have recently won several government competitions. The demonstration which took place at Khalifa University’s Abu Dhabi campus on February 25th 2014 featured the two mobile apps that recently won the Best m-Government Service Award in the University Students Category at the Government Summit in Dubai the three mobile apps that won first second and third at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Smart Applications Award’s and the app that won award in a Ministry of Interior competition.

Of the teams that won the Best m-Government Service Award team one consisting of PhD in engineering students Hamad Ahmad Al Marzooqi Essa Basaeed Ahmed Rashed Al Tunaiji Khalfan Al Marashda and Mohammed Ali Al Zaabi under the supervision of Dr. Hassan Al Muhairi won for their “iQ Application” which was designed for the Ministry of Justice.

The “IQ” app was designed with the goal of making wasting time in a queue a thing of the past. The iQ application enables the customer to book a ticket online without actually having to physically be at the service centre. The application provides essential information for selected services such as required documents and fees. Moreover the customer gets a live update of their queue status (number of customers waiting in the queue and expected serving time). Accordingly the customer can arrange to arrive at the service centre just before their expected service time. Using the iQ application will substantially reduce the time wasted in line compared to the traditional queuing system. In addition the application provides a feedback platform for customers to assess the quality of service.

The second winning team included students Nasser Al Rayhi and Abdulla Ali Al Bathra who are both undergraduate Computer engineering students and were under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Bentiba won for their MOH (Ministry of Health) App. The app provides comprehensive services designed especially for the Ministry of Health and can be run on all smartphone systems (iOS Android Windows Phone). The app gives users the ability to communicate directly with the ministry in order to apply for services and track them. The app contains a variety of services including health care services a directory for medication a hospitals directory and health watch tools.

The three winning apps at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Smart Application Awards featured services dedicated to certificates attestation scholarships abroad search for academic institutions and programs and “Asaal Fahim” service. The three teams who are made up of UAE nationals were ranked based on the efficiency and effectiveness of their app its ease of use and its creativity and innovation.

Finally the team who won a recent Ministry of Interior competition for their unique mobile application for traffic services also demonstrated their app. The team supervised by Dr. Samer Al Samahi consists of Buti Al Delail Ahmed Abdulla Al Dhanhani and Mansoor Mohamed Abdulla Albloushi.

The app offers two methods to inquire about vehicle information either by using a traditional data entry method or through an innovative method that involves simply scanning the vehicle number plate using your phone’s camera. This app will help users to view traffic fines where they took place and offer advice on making payments. Another service will obtain an electronic version of the driver’s license after the user provides appropriate documents. An electronic version of your driver’s license can be verified by officials upon request. Users of the app will also enjoy the ease of scanning documents such as their Emirates ID which is frequently used in various applications as well as renewing their driver’s license and the vehicle’s registration card. The inquiry service module provides information about various service centers such as name contacts business hours number of tickets awaiting the service and the center’s site map. Additionally it will help users get to the nearest service center in relation to their location.
