Khalifa University Gears up for a Week of Exciting Events during UAE Innovation Week

Abu Dhabi 18 November 2015: Inspired by UAE Innovation Week an initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice President and Ruler of Dubai Khalifa University has organized an eventful week of activities challenges and displays. The week will start on November 22 and run until November 26.

UAE Innovation Week

There will be several Open Houses over the course of the week including an exhibition of student projects which will be on show throughout the week. These exhibits include for example a system for the design modeling and control of hybrid Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV’s) a smart fabric for electrocardiogram (ECG) and blood pressure measurements and a next generation mobile health biological chip to mention a few.

There will also be a student Entrepreneurship Competition on November 22. This exciting event will see students pitch their ideas to a panel of venture capitalists in the hopes of being offered funding. Although entirely hypothetical the panel will consist of two actual venture capitalists and various members of Khalifa University’s faculty and the winning student team will receive a reward for their efforts. This competition comes as part of the student’s course requirements and is designed to teach students how to market their ideas and establish start-up companies. In addition to this competition there will also be an open house for the Etisalat BT Innovation Center which is a major contributor to patent production and ICT innovation in the country.

On November 23 the Khalifa University Robotics Institute (KURI) will hold a display of student and faculty projects dealing with Unmanned Aerial and Ground Vehicles and other exciting robotics initiatives. The Khalifa University Center for Excellence in Biotechnology (KUCEB) will also be open to the public on this day and showcasing advancements in Type II Diabetes and Cardiovascular disease research.

On November 24 the day will start with an open day for the University’s Khalifa Semiconductor Research Center (KSRC) which is dedicated to advancing semiconductor technology which is critical to the evolution of technologies like iPads mobile phones and computers. The University will also host its annual National Day celebrations starting at 4:00pm which will be focused on the theme of Innovation and feature many family friendly activities and shows.

November 25 will see an open house event for the recently opened Visual Signal Analysis and Processing Center (VSAP) which focuses on technologies based around video and image processing.

Finally on November 26th the new Aerospace and Research Innovation Center (ARIC) will host an exhibit showcasing student and faculty achievements in airplane design and composite manufacturing. An open house event by the Information Security Research Center (ISRC) which aims to advance innovation in data and cyber security will end the week.

The Innovation Week will also see several visits by high school students to the Discovery Center of the University which is designed to attract school students to study engineering and science. Selected students will also be engaged in a STEM camp scheduled on 26 November.

The week will also witness the signing of several important Memorandums of Understanding with Etisalat and British Telecom ICT Fund and the National newspaper.
