Hamed bin Zayed meets winners from Khalifa University

H.H. Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Chairman of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court and Deputy Chairman of Khalifa University Board of Trustees has commended the outstanding students of Khalifa university who won two awards one in the “best government service via mobile phone” at the 2nd Government Summit and the second “The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for Smart Application ” award in its first session.

During his meeting with the students Sheikh Hamed was briefed on the winning programs and projects and their initiatives in the innovation of advanced government services via mobile phones. The students gave him an explanation about the ideas of the programs that won the accolade. 

Sheikh Hamed stressed that education and scientific research are essential pillars of the comprehensive development in the U.A.E. and they have great interest of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. 

Two Khalifa University student teams were awarded a million dirhams each at the Government Summit in Dubai last week.  The teams won the Best m-Government Service Award in the University Students Category for their innovative mobile applications. 

Team one consisting of PhD in engineering students Hamad Ahmad Al Marzooqi Essa Basaeed Ahmed Rashed Al Tunaiji Khalfan Al Marashda and Mohammed Ali Al Zaabi under the supervision of Dr. Hassan Al Muhairi won for their “iQ Application” which was designed for the Ministry of Justice. 

The “IQ” app was designed with the goal of making wasting time in a queue a thing of the past. The iQ application enables the customer to book a ticket online without actually having to physically be at the service centre. The application provides essential information for selected services such as required documents and fees. Moreover the customer gets a live update of their queue status (number of customers waiting in the queue and expected serving time). Accordingly the customer can arrange to arrive at the service centre just before their expected service time. Using the iQ application will substantially reduce the time wasted in line compared to the traditional queuing system. In addition the application provides a feedback platform for customers to assess the quality of service.

The second winning team included students Nasser Al Rayhi and Abdulla Ali Al Bathra who are both undergraduate Computer engineering students and were under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Bentiba won for their MOH (Ministry of Health) App. The app provides comprehensive services designed especially for the Ministry of Health and can be run on all smartphone systems (iOS Android Windows Phone). The app gives users the ability to communicate directly with the ministry in order to apply for services and track them. The app contains a variety of services including health care services a directory for medication a hospitals directory and health watch tools.
