Influx of new students will benefit from new research facilities and recreational activities
Khalifa University welcomed yesterday its new class of students by holding an Orientation Day that showcased what they have in-store during the course of their education including information on possible majors the University’s diverse research centers and introductions to its various student clubs and sporting activities that all make up the University’s vibrant community.
New students were taken on a tour of the campus met with student counsellors to discuss course loads and met with older students and faculty members who introduced them to life at the University and answered any questions or concerns.
Khalifa University which is supported by the government of the UAE and owned entirely by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi has seen substantial growth since its inception in 2008 including the construction of its new state-of-the-art Abu Dhabi campus which is forecasted to open the end of 2016.
New students were welcomed by Dr. Tod Laursen Khalifa University President and Dr. Mohammed al Mualla Senior Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies. They each delivered a welcome note and talked about Khalifa University’s efforts in maintaining high quality academic offerings. The recent ABET global accreditation to six undergraduate programs is a testament to this.
“Khalifa University works hard to make sure its students have access to everything they need to excel at their studies to become leaders of industry and to contribute meaningfully to the future of the UAE ” says Dr. Arif Al Hammadi Executive Vice President of Khalifa University. “We know that a lot goes into developing well rounded leaders so we are sure to provide our students with access to knowledge to opportunities to explore learn and travel and to chances to give back to their community through volunteer initiatives and charity work. Khalifa University is not just an education it’s a community. It’s a network of peers alumni faculty and collaborators who all strive to see each other succeed and to see the UAE and its people grow and prosper.”
Khalifa University’s culture of research and innovation attracts top faculty from around the world. Khalifa University faculty members have won competitions issued by NASA the Gates Foundation and Qatar and have been invited to be guest researchers at such prestigious institutions as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Duke University and Imperial College (London). A recent university ranking released by QS found Khalifa University researchers to have the top publication rate per capita of any institution in the MENA region. Additionally a Khalifa University student came second in the regional leg of Microsoft’s Imagine Cup after winning the UAE leg. His innovative app of a game called Cayram has been downloaded over one million times.
Its students also enjoy exciting internships with international companies. This year saw record sixty students attend internships in nine different countries including Germany Japan Australia the United States South Korea and United Kingdom.
Khalifa University students also benefit from comprehensive academic scholarships such as the Buhooth scholarship for graduate students which provides UAE nationals with their full academic tuition and a competitive salary while they complete their advanced studies.
