Automatic and accurate detection of potential drowning events

Technology Overview

Drowning can happen quickly and quietly anywhere there is water and even in the presence of lifeguards. In the United States about ten people die each day from drowning. The developed drowning detection system is comprised of sonar sensors arranged in a body of water to form a three-dimensional grid, a movement tracing unit connected to the sonar sensors, and a drowning detection unit that analyzes the movement path of a person and issues an alarm when the movement path of the person is indicative of drowning.
