This theme focuses on the direct analysis of data coming from space missions. This could include handling raw data coming from active space mission, or final standardized and archived data products if research is the intention. In either case, the people involved in this theme are expected to have the access privilege and the tools for handling the data (if it’s raw data from an active mission), or the knowledge of how to use the archived data correctly for their research. Within the framework of this theme, planning of future observations is envisioned.
This theme focuses on various modeling activities to better understand the data available for personnel in theme 1, to test theories that can bear corroborated with observations, and even inform future measurements. Modeling efforts would include, but are not necessarily limited to Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) methods, fluid dynamics, radiative transfer models, stress propagation, Magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) simulations, and even laboratory work and fieldwork at planetary analogue sites.
