Course Description

This course covers the description, applications, design, analysis and operational problems of surface production facilities. Topics include 2-phase and 3-phase separation, emulsion treatment, desalting, oil stabilization, water treatment, and storage and transportation (pipeline). It focuses on the processes (separation and emulsion treatment) and equipment used in the industry to produce clean oil

Learning Outcomes: 

  1. Understand layout of production equipment: wellhead, manifolds, separators, heater-treaters, storage tanks, pumps etc. and have  a better understanding of why the production system behaves as it does (including safety, environmental and maintenance issues)
  2. Understand the equipment design and selection/pipelines
  3. Analyze and solve surface production problems (separators, treaters, and pipeline design and selection)
  4. Fluid flow measurements (oil and gas metering)
