Biography

Prof. Hassan Barada has over 32 years of experience in academia as a faculty and administrator. He is currently the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs at KU and he was the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies in the College of Engineering from September 2010 until January 2022. He has also served as the Acting Dean of the College of Engineering from April 2021 to January 2022.

Prof. Barada received his Bachelor, Master, and PhD in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana State University, USA in 1984, 1986, and 1989, respectively. Before he joined the founding team of Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research in 2008, he held academic posts at Lehigh University (USA) from 1989 to 1995, King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KSA) from 1995 to 1999, and Etisalat University College (UAE) from 1999 to 2008.

As KU's Associate Dean (2010-2022), Prof. Barada was responsible for overseeing the College of Engineering’s academic programs and initiatives that support and enhance academic success and the learning experience of students. He also led the effort in securing national and international accreditation and reaccreditation for all undergraduate engineering programs at KU.

Prof. Barada’s research interests are in distributed computing with a focus on algorithm design for distributed services and applications. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and a member of the IEEE Computer Society and the IEEE Education Society. He was the Chairman of IEEE Computer Society, Lehigh Valley Section, USA from 1992 to 1995.
