Mutasim Al-Deaibes is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the Khalifa University. Dr. Al-Deaibes received his PhD in Linguistics from the University of Manitoba, where he was granted a doctoral fellowship and taught a wide array of courses at the Department of Linguistics. He began his academic career as a Fulbright scholar at Mercyhurst University, Pennsylvania, where he taught a variety of courses in the World Languages Department. His research revolves around the fields of phonetics, phonology, sociolinguistics, and syntax-prosody interface.
His published work focuses on the acoustic properties of speech sounds in spoken Arabic dialects. He also has been working with colleagues on several on-going projects that explore the acquisition of phonetics and phonology by children and adult second language learners and presented his work at a variety of international linguistics conferences.
