Biography

Dr. Paschalis C. Sofotasios was born in Volos, Greece, in 1978. He received the MEng degree from Newcastle University, the MSc degree from the University of Surrey, and the PhD degree from the University of Leeds. He has held academic positions at the University of Leeds, University of California, Los Angleles, (UCLA), Tampere University of Technology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Khalifa University,  where he currently serves as an Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

Dr.  Sofotasios has supervised several MSc/PhD students and has published extensively in leading journal periodicals and conference venues in areas relating to communication theory, channel modeling, cognitive radio, cooperative communications, multi-user communications, optical wireless communications, physical layer security, mm-wave communications, wireless power transfer, hardware constrained communications and off-body communications.   His current research interests are in the broad areas of physical layer  communications  with emphasis in emerging wireless technologies and 6G mobile communication systems.

Dr. Sofotasios has received numerous scholarships/awards during his undergraduate/graduate studies and post-doctoral research. Also,  he has been a member of Technical Program Committee of numerous IEEE conferences and has served as a TPC Chair for the Communication Theory Symposium of IEEE Globecom 2021 and the IEEE CommNet 2018/2019/2020. In addition, he was an Associate Editor of the IEEE COMMUNICATIONS LETTERS from 2015 to 2020, and a Guest Editor with the IEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society. He has received Exemplary Reviewer awards by IEEE COMMUNICATIONS LETTERS and IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON COMMUNICATIONS and he is a Senior Member, IEEE.
