Dr Nicolas Lopez Ferber has experience in experimental development of waste-based ceramics and thermal energy storage systems. After several projects related to waste valorization and industrial ecology, he began experimenting in the field of ceramics in 2015, with the objectives of producing low-cost thermal energy storage ceramics to be used as fillers for thermocline heat storage systems in the fields of waste heat recovery and concentrated solar power. He also worked in the experimental evaluation of the performances of high-temperature air/ceramic thermocline systems. After exploring the potential of incinerator bottom ash as a possible raw material, he moved to Electric Arc Furnace steel slags. He is currently working for Khalifa University, in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, in the team led by Dr Nicolas Calvet, then by Dr Matteo Chiesa.
