Assistant Professor, Department of Physiology & Immunology

Dr. Hamdan received his M.Sc in molecular biology from LAU and his PhD in molecular neurobiology from UAMS (USA). His postdoctoral fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine (USA) was focused on mechanisms regulating localization and retention of proteins at the axon initial segments and nodes of Ranvier. Prior to joining Khalifa University, he worked as assistant professor of neurophysiology at Alfaisal University in KSA.

Education
  • BS in Biology
  • MSc in Molecular Biology
  • PhD in Physiology and Cell Biology
Research Areas
  • Understanding the functional organization of axons in normal health and disease/injury.
  • Determine the consequences of nervous system injury/disease (e.g., multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, ischemic brain injury, peripheral nerve injury) on the structure and function of nodes of Ranvier and axon initial segments.
  • Investigating novel methods of delivering adenovirus and Crispr/Cas9 into primary neurons and mice.
