About University

Khalifa University is a world-class, research-intensive institution in Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The University’s mission is to seamlessly integrate research and education to produce world leaders and critical thinkers in science, engineering, and medicine, and also to be a catalyst towards Abu Dhabi’s 2030 vision for a knowledge-based economy. Khalifa University has two campuses in the city of Abu Dhabi – the KU Main Campus and the Sas Al Nakhl Campus, the latter housing two of KU’s flagship research institutes: Masdar Institute and Petroleum Institute.

Brief Description
  • To provide high quality research support and undertake internationally competitive research aimed at publication thereby contributing to the academic and research mission of the University.
  • Since the Postdoctoral experience is transitional to becoming an independent researcher or faculty member, the Postdoctoral Fellow tries their best to acquire the varied skills necessary to advance their career with guidance from the advisor. These skills include, but are not limited to, the ability to present research plans and findings in a convincing style, both in oral and written modes of communication, the ability to understand research group management and supervision of others, the ability to establish contacts and network with colleagues pursuing a similar research agenda, the ability to organize and teach a class or a course if more inclined towards a teaching career.
Detailed Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in Applied and Computational Mathematics, with the aim of developing accurate and efficient numerical algorithms to solve nonlinear PDEs resulting from fluid mechanics and continuum models in biomedicine. The aim of the project is to develop a high-fidelity mathematical modeling framework accounting for the impact of realistic complex blood flow rheology and the regulatory mechanisms underlying the development of intra-aneurysmal thrombus.

Topics at large

Numerical analysis and simulation for the complex systems in medicine held by PDEs, computational fluid dynamics, multi-physics, fluid-structure interactions, scientific computing.

Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to

We are looking for a PostDoc with Numerical Methods expertise to participate in the:

  • Development of mathematical models and implementation of numerical methods for the solution of partial differential equations.
  • Development of efficient numerical algorithms for complex non Newtonian fluids and assessment of numerical methods and computational performances.
  • Development of simulation software running on parallel architectures.
Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • A PhD degree in Applied Mathematics or a closely related discipline.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, and demonstrated potential for outstanding research.

Required Experience

  • Solid background in PDEs and scientific computing.
  • Proven experience in at least one of the topics: Mathematical modeling, numerical analysis, computational fluid dynamics.
  • A deep knowledge of finite elements, and continuous or discontinuous Galerkin methods is fundamental.
  • Experience in using finite element software libraries like e.g. Rheolef, Freefem++, LifeV, Feel++, Deal II.
  • Good knowledge of high level programming languages, e.g., C/C++.

Experience in any of the following areas would be a plus:

  • HPC, complex flow modeling, optimal control, Fluid-structure interactions.
How To Apply Applicants should send their updated CV to Dr. Aymen Laadhari aymen.laadhari@ku.ac.ae. A complete application includes curriculum vitae, cover letter, photo, and the names and contact information of three references.
