Brief Description

The Core Lab Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day technical operations of a cleanroom facility, which includes equipment management, maintenance of equipment and research support facilities, the training of users, the compliance of the lab with University Environmental, Health and Safety regulation (EHS), and proper and safe use of equipment and materials.

Detailed Description

Operational Responsibilities

Laboratory Safety

  • Drive practices and metrics that ensure that the laboratories operate in compliance with all aspects of Khalifa University Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies

Laboratory Operations

  • Responsible for the coordination of maintenance; work with the cleanroom instructor to ensure problems don’t impact laboratory services
  • Responsible for the coordination of the performance of the cleanroom and equipment
  • Assist with laboratory goals and operational procedures for quality, efficiency, and waste reduction

Technical Support

  • Perform tests on a daily or weekly basis to identify issues and ensure optimal performance
  • Maintain records to ensure safe and optimal operation of equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance following supplier guidelines
  • Responsible for routine repairs and servicing
  • Communicate with the instructor if repairs require vendors or are covered by a maintenance contract
  • Support the instructor to ensure quality control checks are carried out to improve practices
  • Support the instructor to create, update, and maintain standard operating procedures
  • Contribute technically to the installation and commissioning of tools
  • Help establish operational and maintenance protocol
  • Assist in maintaining stock levels and inventory of lab suppliers

Resource Management

  • Assist the instructor in maintaining an inventory of commonly used lab supplies, maintenance parts, and any other items related to research lab operations
  • Ensure equipment schedules on the lab website are kept up to date
  • Guide the instructor on the purchase of replacement parts

Research Services

  • Maintain liaison with investigators, research personnel, and staff to solve technical problems

Other Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the University’s information security and confidentiality policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly
  • Coordinate with other departments to facilitate the accomplishment of tasks and responsibilities as and when needed
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Recommend appropriate training courses as per the user’s research interests

Job Requirements

Required Qualification

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in A related field with relevant experience in Research Laboratories

Required Expereince

  • Expats: A minimum of 7-9 years of relevant experience
  • UAE Nationals: A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience
