Dr. Heungjo An is an Assistant Professor at Khalifa University. Before joining, he was an Assistant Professor of KFUPM in Saudi. His research interests focus on supply chain and logistics based on large-scale optimization and simulation. Recently, his research areas are extending to reinforcement learning for stochastic decision processes, non-linear multi-objective optimization for additive manufacturing processes, and techno-economic analysis of solar energy.
He has a diverse academic and industrial experiences. He conducted an academic project supported by the US Department of Energy to develop a new biomass logistics system using simulation and optimization, from which he published several papers in top journals. Also, from the KU-KAIST joint research program, he successfully collaborated with KAIST for the closed-loop container shipping system under uncertainty based on optimization and reinforcement learning.
His industrial experiences are in IT company as a software engineer, and in the petrochemical company as an operations research analyst. Recently, he has been actively working with regional organizations for a container shipping scheduling problem with Borouge and a workflow improvement with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
