Dr. Marcus Dahlem
Associate Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Dr. Marcus Dahlem is an Associate Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering (Microsystems Engineering program) at Khalifa University (Masdar campus). He is also the Director of the Center of Excellence on Integrated Photonics, a research center established at Khalifa University in collaboration with GlobalFoundries and SRC.
Dr. Dahlem received his Licenciatura degree (BSc + MSc) in Applied Physics (Optoelectronics and Lasers) from the University of Porto (Portugal) in 2000, and his MSc and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2005 and 2011, respectively. At MIT, Dr. Dahlem worked in the Optics and Quantum Electronics group at the Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE), under the supervision of Professor Erich P. Ippen. Between 1999 and 2002, he worked as a Laboratory Instructor in the Physics Department at the University of Porto, and as a Research Assistant at the Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering of Porto (INESC Porto). In 2003 and 2005, he served as a Teaching Assistant in EECS at MIT, and between 2003 and 2011, he worked as a Research Assistant at the MIT RLE. In 2008, he worked at the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory, in the Exploratory Photonics group.
His current research interests include electronic-photonic integrated circuits for high-speed data processing, silicon photonics (SOI-based) devices, distributed optical fiber sensors, organic solar cells for flexible and low-cost energy generation, and light management in thin-film solar cells.
