Dr. Abdul Rahiman Beig earned a B.Eng. degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Suratkal, India, and, M.Tech., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India.

 

Dr. Beig is currently working as Associate Professor in the department of Electrical Engineering.  He is Senior Member of IEEE  and serving as Associate Editor for the IEEE Industrial Applications Transaction. He has set up the Power Electronics Research Laboratory under the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at  Khalifa University, Sas Al Nakhl Campus. Dr.Beig is leading the research team in the area of power electronics. His current research focus in on auto tuning of grid connected converters, drive train in electric vehicles, modular multi-level converter for HVDC applications , high power drives, SiC and GaN based converters.

 

He has successfully completed the industry sponsored project on mitigation of the power quality problems in oil rigs. He has initiated other research projects on design of active filters for distorted voltage conditions and improved PWM techniques for high power drives etc.

 

Dr. Beig has excellent industrial experience especially in the design of inverters; DSP/FPGA based embedded controllers and development of control algorithms for electric drives. From 1989 to 1992, he was with M/S Kirloskar Electric Company, Ltd, Mysore, India, as a R&D Engineer with the design team of BLDC drive, which received the best indigenous product design award by IEEMA, New Delhi, India.

He later joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, NITK Suratkal.  His professional activities at NITK include teaching, research, modernization and restructuring of undergraduate laboratories, setting up of research laboratories and introducing new post graduate program.
